Te Reo Irirangi o Turanganui-a-kiwa or Turanga FM is the Iwi Radio Station for the Gisborne Area Broadcasting on 91.7FM / 95.7FM & 98.1FM. The Station has a wide & diverse music format catering to the listening tastes of many while still maintaining its prime mission statement of preserving & promoting the maori culture & language.
Turanga FM is represented by the 3 Iwi within the Turanganui-a-kiwa Area of Te Aitanga-a-Mahaki / Rongowhakaata & Ngai Tamanuhiri. The coverage area is East towards Tolaga Bay / South down to Wairoa & West to Matawai with Gisborne being the station location. The Station also streamed around the world via Irirangi.net & is Flanked by Iwi Stations Radio Kahungunu (Napier) Radio Ngati Porou (Ruatoria) Sun F.M (Whakatane).
On Sat 17th March The Wiz, Lindsey, Willie, Fred and some of the staff of Turanga FM attended the 1st Iwi Radio Awards in Rotorua. Lindsey was a Finalist in his category Best Bilingual Kaumatua Show. Willie Donnelly was a Finalist in his category Best Bilingual Sports Presentation. The Wiz was a Finalist in his category Best Bilingual Announcer Over 25. Congratulations to Lindsay and Willie for being a finalist in the awards. A VERY BIG Congratulations to The Wiz Awarded the Best Bilingual Announcer Over 25 for 2012 across Aotearoa.
